A MESSAGE FROM OUR

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

I'm an image

Rudy Brandl '83, Director of Communications and Publications, was inspired to take A Trip Down Memory Lane in his recent blog post. Below is an excerpt:

I still have fond memories of attending Fall Fair and Homecoming Day as a student back in the 1970s and 1980s. Playing soccer in the morning or afternoon, running around and having fun with friends, and enjoying various culinary delights and snacks made those great days to be a Ram. Four-plus decades later, the 2022 version of the annual autumn event brought back memories of the past. While the campus has changed and the members of the community are different from my generation as a student, it felt like old home week.

Support our upcoming stage productions

Our student thespians are hard at work rehearsing for their big performances in Clue (US Fall Play) and Tuck Everlasting (MS Musical). Broadway-style Playbills are produced for these events and provide a great way to promote community businesses as well as give shout-outs to your favorite performers, teachers, and more. Department Chair Sharon Byrne says, “All the funds raised go directly toward elevating the level of our productions and providing an enriching experience for our student performers and crew members.”

For information about purchasing ad space in either of the Playbills, please email Marci Bowman at mbowman@whschool.org.

Middle School Athletes of the Week

Mike Romeo, Athletic Director, announced the Middle School Athletes of the Week at Wednesday’s divisional meeting. Congratulations to soccer players Rehan Ali ‘28, Hamilton Dressel ‘29 and Elana Nieporent ’27, and tennis players Anna Bao ’27 and Kimberly Zhang ’27.

Rehan has worked very hard and has shown perpetual improvement and a focused effort towards being better. Hamilton is always prepared, always focused, always playing his best game. He’s skilled, thoughtful, and can run for days. Elana has helped set the high standards in Middle School soccer for attitude, discipline and work ethic during practices and games. She is not afraid to play hard and put herself on the line for the team, even making tactical suggestions to the coaches.

Anna and Kimberly have been playing as doubles partners since fifth grade. They are always in every match they play and both have been great assets to the Middle School tennis program.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Milkweed Needed for Hungry Caterpillars

There are little monarch caterpillars in the Lower School!  They are residing in Senora Hinestroza's classroom for all to see. They are slowly growing but will soon be hungry, hungry caterpillars. Monarchs eat only one thing – milkweed. We are on the lookout for any milkweed you have in your yard or that you see in a local park. Most has gone to seed at this point but there is still milkweed around to be found. We do not need plants dug out – only clippings. Please contact Katherine Heiss at kheiss@WHschool.org if you can help.

Join LA Subscribes to Fight Hunger

LA Subscribes to Fight Hunger is a student-led initiative to address food insecurity in the local community. Families who join are "subscribing" to deliver a bag of food to school one day a month. Food is then delivered to a local food pantry, mainly the Starfish Food Pantry in Plainfield.
