The Class of 2023 has begun this year’s series of senior speeches with wonderful oration covering a variety of topics. Student Council president Annie Gu ’23 (pictured) kicked off the speeches in the Berry Performing Arts Center on September 27, and classmates Gyrord Gregoire ’23, Xavier Hinds ’23, Aastha Patel ’23, Soham Panigrahi ’23 and Briana Di Landro have also delivered their speeches.
Annie spoke about how the Model United Nations Club experience has made her a more confident and accomplished public speaker. She encouraged her peers to “take the actions necessary to reach your goals.”
Gyrord shared some of his struggles finding his place in different communities and how he was always concerned about making others happy. As he has matured, Gyrord has gained a greater understanding of his identity.
Xavier talked about his transformation over the past four years of Upper School and how joining the Black Student Alliance has made a monumental change in his life. This safe space to share ideas also has made him a better leader.
Aastha reflected on overcoming her lifelong hesitation with having her picture taken while sharing a story about her uncle’s struggle with cancer. She has learned to appreciate the importance of documenting memories with friends and family.
Soham addressed the theme of perseverance and how it has helped him navigate periods of uncertainty as a musician and tennis player. Thanks to the support of the LA community, he has stayed the course and become successful in both areas.
Briana shared an emotional story about growing apart from a childhood friend and how this experience will help her move forward in life. She has learned to embrace change and now has the “confidence to step boldly into the future.”
