A MESSAGE FROM OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR |
|
|
| Mike Romeo, Athletic Director, explains how this year’s slogan – Respect All, Fear None – epitomizes the Rams’ philosophy in his first blog post. Below is an excerpt:
Every year, athletic departments all over the United States try to come up with a catchy t-shirt slogan that will appear on the backs of their student-athletes. The goal is to inspire enthusiasm and some positive words to live by for the upcoming season. We have all seen them. There are many different types of slogan categories: You have the derivative: “There’s No I in Team” and the more haughty, “My blood, my sweat, your tears.” And of course, there is the “OG” of slogan t-shirts: “No Pain, No Gain.”

| DEIB Committee meets, plans next steps |
On Sunday, October 16, the LA DEIB Committee met to continue its work in support of the school's efforts in all areas relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Planning for a series of focus groups took place and three such groups will meet this fall. Each group will focus on an area of the school community in order to gather additional data about the lived experiences of community members. Slated to run this fall are groups devoted to discussions on: Student Life, Alumni Involvement and Investment, and Governance and Leadership. In late winter, a focus group will be convened to examine Teaching and Learning through a DEIB lens. The Committee is excited about this work and eager to utilize the information gained through these discussions to make additional recommendations to the school.

| Community enjoys Read and Share |
The WHPA held a month-long Read and Share initiative celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. This initiative celebrated the LA community and all of the rich cultures within it by sharing photos, stories and books on social media. Sharing photos and brief summaries was a great way for members of the community to learn more about one another’s culture, recognize our differences, and celebrate our similarities. | Support our upcoming stage productions |
Our student thespians are hard at work rehearsing for their big performances in Clue (US Fall Play) and Tuck Everlasting (MS Musical). Broadway-style Playbills are produced for these events and provide a great way to promote community businesses as well as give shout-outs to your favorite performers, teachers, and more. Department Chair Sharon Byrne says, “All the funds raised go directly toward elevating the level of our productions and providing an enriching experience for our student performers and crew members.”
For information about purchasing ad space in either of the Playbills, please email Marci Bowman at mbowman@whschool.org. |

Milkweed Needed for Hungry Caterpillars
There are little monarch caterpillars in the Lower School! They are residing in Senora Hinestroza's classroom for all to see. They are slowly growing but will soon be hungry, hungry caterpillars. Monarchs eat only one thing – milkweed. We are on the lookout for any milkweed you have in your yard or that you see in a local park. Most has gone to seed at this point but there is still milkweed around to be found. We do not need plants dug out – only clippings. Please contact Katherine Heiss at kheiss@WHschool.org if you can help.
Join LA Subscribes to Fight Hunger
LA Subscribes to Fight Hunger is a student-led initiative to address food insecurity in the local community. Families who join are "subscribing" to deliver a bag of food to school one day a month. Food is then delivered to a local food pantry, mainly the Starfish Food Pantry in Plainfield.
