A MESSAGE FROM OUR LOWER SCHOOL HEAD |
|
|
| JohnEric Advento, Lower School Head, discusses Our Lower School Community of Learners and the work we must do to foster relationships to support student success in his recent blog post. Below is an excerpt:
We celebrated Back to School Night in person last Thursday. With some “Clean Motown'' playing in the Berry Performing Arts Center, we started the evening. It was great to finally address parents and teachers together to start the school year with a little bit of “normalcy” during Opening Remarks of BTSN. After nearly 30 years in schools as an educational leader, I find there is something quite special when a community comes together for the same purpose and collective why. For us, at LA, our “why” and common purpose is our Mission.

Milkweed Needed for Hungry Caterpillars
There are little monarch caterpillars in the Lower School! They are residing in Senora Hinestroza's classroom for all to see. They are slowly growing but will soon be hungry, hungry caterpillars. Monarchs eat only one thing – milkweed. We are on the lookout for any milkweed you have in your yard or that you see in a local park. Most has gone to seed at this point but there is still milkweed around to be found. We do not need plants dug out – only clippings. Please contact Katherine Heiss at kheiss@WHschool.org if you can help.
Join LA Subscribes to Fight Hunger
LA Subscribes to Fight Hunger is a student-led initiative to address food insecurity in the local community. Families who join are "subscribing" to deliver a bag of food to school one day a month. Food is then delivered to a local food pantry, mainly the Starfish Food Pantry in Plainfield.
