The LA Upper School athletic teams have started the school year on a roll. Through the end of September, marking the first three weeks of the fall season, all varsity teams have posted winning records.
The girls’ tennis team finished September with a 6-0 record, having dropped only three individual matches. First singles player Kapriana Payami ’23 is undefeated in regular season play. The Rams stand alone in first place in the GMC Blue Division.
Both soccer teams enjoyed winning streaks in September that propelled them to impressive records. The LA girls won four consecutive games in an eight-day span and finished the month with a 5-2-1 record. The Rams avenged one of their losses with an Oct. 3 victory over Spotswood. Angelina Vargas ’23 is among the state leaders with 21 goals and eight assists. The LA boys won five straight in a 10-day span to end September with a 7-2 mark. Junior Amandeep Bahia ’24 is leading the Rams with 12 goals this fall.
The girls’ volleyball team has opened the season with a 5-3 record and is currently in third place in the GMC Blue Division. Cherice Clarke ’23 leads the team in kills (14), Kayla Martel ’24 is setting the pace in assists (61) and Gbemi Olarewaju ’24 has the most blocks (7).
The cross country teams have competed in a series of invitational meets in preparation for the GMC, State Prep and NJSIAA Championships. Freshmen Charlotte Szczubelek ’26 and Ryan Maciorowski ’26 have shown good form and posted fast times in their first year on the varsity level.
