A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL

I'm an image

Dr. Corinna Crafton, Head of School, articulates how We are all Entrepreneurs in her February blog post. Below is an excerpt:

Entrepreneurs use skill, savvy, and resources to design new products, open new markets, create jobs, and anticipate the next Big Thing.

When we ask our students to engage in creative problem solving, to collaborate with purpose, to identify a need in the world and imagine how it might be uniquely addressed, we are asking them to think like entrepreneurs. We invite them to shape their future and, in turn, their world. We ask our teachers to do these things also. They collaborate with one another to craft learning opportunities which lay a foundation for developing the acumen and practical experience necessary to succeed in an increasingly complex world.

Lunar New Year festivities begin

LA students began the celebration of Lunar New Year, the Year of the Dragon, with a series of activities in their Middle and Upper School classrooms and presentations at their respective divisional meetings. The 15-day celebration, which runs from Feb. 10-24, will continue at LA with larger group events including dance performances.

Led by Chinese teachers Alice Zhao and Yandan Chang, students set the tone for the celebration by decorating the hallways and classrooms prior to the start of the Lunar New Year observance. Chinese classes also made dumplings, played games and practiced dances for the upcoming performances.

Seniors earn early college acceptances

Congratulations to several seniors in the Class of 2024 who have made their college plans official after accepting Early Decision admission to their No. 1 choices. For the next several weeks, the WHEN will include spotlights on seniors who have earned Early Decision admission.

Among the first to receive the good news were two golf standouts who will continue their academic and athletic careers at Ivy League schools: Claire Lu '24 and Sarah Shao '24. Both student athletes celebrated their commitment with family, friends and LA faculty and staff at signing ceremonies in the school's Admission Conference Room in January.

Claire will matriculate to the University of Pennsylvania. She is undecided about her major but likely to pursue something in the field of art, a passion she has focused on along with the talent in golf that has landed her on a Division 1 collegiate team.

Sarah will attend Columbia University to continue her studies and golf career. She intends to pursue a major in Economics but looks forward to expanding her academic horizons with the university’s core curriculum on its beautiful campus.
