Five seniors delivered wonderful speeches within the past week in the Berry Performing Arts Center. Congratulations to Tiger Huang ’24 (pictured), Zara Zaidi ’24, Max Ren ’24, Marcus Hamilton ’24 and Raiya Patel ’24 for sharing their stories with the Upper School students and faculty.
Tiger looked back on his journey since arriving at LA as an eighth grade international student and the ups and downs including the pandemic. He’s met many new friends, enjoyed unique experiences and is grateful to his parents, teachers and peers for their support.
Zara reflected on her 12 years as a LA lifer and how she has enjoyed the familiar faces, hallways and safety net of the community. She’s feeling apprehensive about leaving the security of home and school but is excited about beginning a new chapter and stepping out of her comfort zone in college.
Max discussed the complexity of life and how all moments matter. He saluted his grandfather for teaching him calligraphy and philosophy. Max encouraged his peers to enjoy the journey and believe the destination will be there for them.
Marcus explored the question “What does it mean to be normal?” and provided many examples of how his personality does not meet the definition. He’s concluded that being irregular is standard and encouraged his peers to celebrate the beauty of being unique and honor individuality.
Raiya shared a story about the lessons she learned and self-realization she gained from throwing away and recovering a meaningful bracelet, which now represents a person, a memory and an experience. She asked her peers to “be aware of the lessons you learn as you grow and don’t limit yourself.”
