The Upper School’s Black Student Alliance (BSA) has continued its monthlong series of presentations educating students about famous Black figures in history.
Last week, Gbemi Olarewaju ’24 and Avarae Calloway ’24 delivered a presentation highlighting Madam C.J. Walker at the Middle School Community Meeting in the Berry Performing Arts Center. They described her contributions as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and civil rights activist. She eventually became the world’s first female millionaire.
At this week’s Upper School Monday meeting, Avarae shared a biographical presentation on legendary tennis player Serena Williams. She spoke about the iconic athlete’s humble beginnings, incredible work ethic, historic athletic accomplishments and impacts on the world.
This week’s winter storm forced the postponement of the BSA’s day trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. The trip has been rescheduled for April 2.
BHM events continue in all three divisions, including a visit from Black author Don P. Hooper with Upper School students on Feb. 27.
