LA students provided a wonderful 90 minutes of musical entertainment at last Thursday’s Upper School Spring Concert in the Berry Performing Arts Center. Four ensembles performed a variety of complex pieces, many of which featured vocal and instrumental solos.
The Concert Band and Jazz Band played flawlessly under the direction of Rick Fontaine. The Concert Band’s Stars and Stripes Forever featured a piccolo solo by Joanne Ding ’24 and the Jazz Band’s repertoire included a flugelhorn solo by Shiv Tickoo ’22 and tenor saxophone solos by Shankari Theivanayagam ’22 and Rithvik Nandhyala ’23.
Sharon Byrne, Performing Arts Department Chair, conducted the MadJazz and Concert Choir vocal ensembles. Highlights of these performances included vocal solos by Sarah Alves ’24, Raiya Patel ’24, Julia Machado ’25 and Samia Silver ’24. The concert ended with a rendition of Justin Timberlake’s Better Days, leaving audience members with a message of hope.
