A MESSAGE FROM OUR LOWER SCHOOL HEAD |
|
|
| JohnEric Advento, Lower School Head, shares a personal story of how Graduation Season Hits Home in his May blog post. Below is an excerpt:
As we approach the end of the school year, we enter into the season of stepping up, from Kindergarten to Grade 1, from Grade 5 to Middle School, from Grade 8 to Upper School or like my son, Simon, from 12th grade to higher education or the work force.
It’s hard to believe that my oldest child is now 18 years old, finishing up his senior year in high school. We are already celebrating and lamenting a bunch of lasts: |

| Seniors make college decisions |
Congratulations to our seniors in the Class of 2023 who have made their college plans official. For the remainder of the school year, the WHEN will include spotlights on seniors who will be matriculating to many of the nation’s finest colleges and universities.
This week we feature Aastha Patel ’23, who will be matriculating to Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, where she plans to major in Business Administration with a concentration in Global Business.
Aastha earned Early Decision II admission to BU and is thrilled to be enrolling at “the one school that stood out due to its diversity, location and business program.” While she was impressed by the multitude of concentrations available, especially the Global Business program, it was the diversity that made the biggest impact.
“Through my three years at LA, I have thoroughly enjoyed cross-cultural experiences such as International Family Fun Night and Holi with my peers, so I hope to build on my cultural awareness by interacting with different people at BU,” Aastha said.

| Students plant 140th Year tree |
The 140th day of WardlaLAartridge’s 140th year began with a commemorative tree planting in the front courtyard near the Lower School building. Fourth graders joined their teachers, Mrs. Ellen Ritz and Ms. Jaclyn Church, along with Dr. Corinna Crafton, Acting Head of School, and Mr. JohnEric Advento, Lower School Head, in planting a red crape myrtle tree.
Students took turns shoveling soil into the hole where the tree had been placed by the LA maintenance team. They gathered with their teachers and school administrators for a photo near the new tree and 140th anniversary yard sign.

Students spread kindness at concert |
Kindness was all around as students in Pre-K through Grade 1 presented a heart-warming Early Childhood Spring Concert on Tuesday morning in the Berry Performing Arts Center. Accompanied by vocals and instrumentals from Shannon Sari, Lower School music teacher, the young students spread uplifting messages of kindness through the musical selections.
The Pre-K and JK students opened the show with four songs: Hello There!, It’s Good to Be Kind, I’m Growing Up, and K-I-N-D. The Kindergarten and first graders took the stage next and opened with an Affirmation Song written by the first graders. They followed with Kind, Thank You for Being a Friend, and Count on Me.
