The LA community enjoyed beautiful weather and wonderful course conditions at the Jim Howard Golf Classic on May 16 at Colonia Country Club. Ten foursomes from the LA community of parents, alumni and friends enjoyed a day of golf and good times together, capped by an afternoon reception. The day began with opening remarks from Head Pro Kevin Maciorowski, parent of LA students Ryan ’26 and Gabby ’29, and a welcome from Dr. Corinna Crafton, Acting Head of School.
Bill Kastner, Pete Aloisio, Karen Rosa and Wendy Roccamonte, grandmother of Nyah Roccamonte-Clark ’27, won the team foursome scramble with an impressive 9-under-par round of 63. The D’Amore family, the defending champions, finished second with a 6-under round of 66.
Alumnus Philip Yulo ’02 and Pete Aloisio won the two Closest to the Pin competitions for men, while Caroline Baker prevailed in the Closest to the Pin for women. Chip Bonk ‘02 and Danielle Koch-Szczubelek won the Longest Drive contests for men and women, respectively. Jim Nasto prevailed in the putting contest.
James O’Neill, parent of Emily ’27, won two raffle prizes – Apple air pods and a round of golf for four at Colonia Country Club. Paul Ficalora, husband of longtime LA art teacher Gale Goldman, won the Callaway driver.
Coach Howard, who was joined at the event by his wife, longtime LA art teacher Sue Howard, son Matt Howard '01, and grandson Hudson Howard, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support of the LA community at the reception. He reflected on his four-plus decades coaching golf at LA and noted that one of the outing participants, alumnus Dave Lombardi '83, played on the first golf team he coached at the school.
The Booster Club and Development Office also wish to thank the event sponsors: Dunkin’ and the D’Amore Family, ConnectOne Bank, Encon, Sage Dining Services, Katie Vetland ’02 and Alejandro Picado, AE2 Learning, the Bauer Family, the Bowman Family, Dr. Corinna Crafton, the Lyons-Brown Family, the Jenkins Family, the Maciorowski Family, the Nazir Family, Higgins Home for Funerals, and Altice Media.
