A MESSAGE FROM OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL HEAD |
|
|
| Jennifer Rose, Middle School Head, salutes the Class of 2027 for daring greatly to take a stand during their Capstone presentations in her April blog post. Below is an excerpt: On Friday, April 14, the Class of 2027 shared their Capstone presentations with their peers, school faculty and staff, and parents. The Eighth Grade Capstone is a signature project, and students started this process in early November, beginning with the guiding Essential Question, “When should an Individual take a stand?”
At noon, parents joined us for a short presentation led by several eighth graders who shared their process, which included beginning with the Global Online Academy Flex Course: Designing Excellent Questions. From choosing a question through thesis, outline, draft, review and presentation, including an Art booklet that encapsulated the theme of the Capstone, students challenged themselves to achieve at the highest level. |

| US students benefit from Symposium |
The Upper School Symposium, focused on Teenage Mental Health Students found tremendous value in the content of last week’s Upper School Symposium on Teenage Mental Health and Wellness. Addressing a topic of great relevance to the teenage community, the Symposium provided many opportunities for students to learn more about self-care, meditation, positive motivation, and physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Nicole Nolan, History Department Chair and Director of Global Scholars and Community Outreach, led an energetic team of faculty and students who were determined to make this a productive day outside the classroom. The Symposium team included faculty members Dina Congregane, Zoe Bongiovanni, Samantha St. Victor and Ryan Oliveira, and students Aadithya Srinivasan ’24, Amelie Leu ’25, Anushka Dalal ’24, Christian Bacalhau ’23, Emma Herko ’25, Giselle Lee ’23, Heidi Pan ’24, Isabella Rovito ’24, Italia Penevolpe ’25, Raiya Patel ’24, Samson Ajayi ’23, Siddharth Bharadwaj ’24, Sofia Romero ’26 and Vinay Karthik ’25.

| Eighth graders impress with Capstones |
Eighth graders in the Class of 2027 shared their research with fellow students, faculty, staff, administrators, family and friends during Middle School Capstone Presentations on April 14 in the Berry Performing Arts Center.
The eighth grade Capstone is an action research project that extends over several months. Students respond to an essential question, which introduces them to the complexity of problems for which there are no easy answers. Students are encouraged to explore an issue of global significance and personal relevance by cultivating a range of research skills. This multi-disciplinary project builds reading, writing, research, artistic, critical thinking, and presentation skills while also fostering curiosity, collaboration, teamwork, and resilience.

| Author engages Lower School students |
Students from PreK(3) to Grade 5 enjoyed the opportunity to meet author and illustrator Daniel Jude Miller during a daylong author visit in Lower Snowdon on April 14.
Mr. Miller shared interactive presentations and read-alouds of his books in separate 30-minute sessions throughout the day. He discussed his personal journey to becoming an author and explained the many steps in the writing and illustration process that create the final product of a book. He kept the students on their toes by unveiling secrets and special surprises, including a monster in a large box on the display table with many of his books. Mr. Miller wrapped up each session by answering questions from many curious students.
The event was sponsored by the LA Parents’ Association. LS AUTHOR VISIT PHOTO GALLERY |
