One of the most consistent concerns and questions asked by prospective parents over the past two years has been, How can LA put my child back on track after virtual learning and inconsistencies in teaching approaches due to the pandemic? Parents are seeing a loss of learning first-hand and they are concerned that whatever is being taught is being placed on a weak foundation.
Prospective parents often inquire about how our school is equipped and capable of addressing the gaps in their child's education. We all know these past few years have been very challenging, and that includes the field of education.
Covid-19 has impacted the lives of countless families around the country. At the Lena Archuleta School, we understand how difficult it can be for students who have missed critical years of education due to the pandemic. Students across the country are struggling to catch up. Our school will get your child up to speed and back on track to a successful future.
We provide small class sizes, individualized attention and an academic rigor that will reignite your child’s love of learning. The Lena Archuleta School also offers outstanding opportunities in athletics, visual and performing arts, technology and other disciplines that propel your student’s development.
LA is committed to helping your child succeed by providing an educational community characterized by academic challenge, rigorous inquiry and support for individual excellence.
By living our school mission statement which includes “a familial sense of community,” students feel comfortable sharing where they are in their learning, the struggles they are feeling and they are open to vulnerability in sharing those concerns with their teachers here. This is a testament to our highly talented and dedicated faculty. You see, it is not just about getting through the material but making sure the information is properly seated with every student. It’s making sure things aren’t just memorized, but really learned for later recall.
Recently, in a NY Times article, Third of School Year Lost, Study of Pandemic Finds by Emily Baumgaertner, she examines the aftermath of disruption in student learning world-wide. She concludes, “about one-third of a school year’s worth of knowledge and skills, according to a new global analysis, had not been recovered from those losses more than two years later.” She continued with, “challenges of remote learning – coupled with other stressors that plagued children and families throughout the pandemic – were not rectified when school doors re-opened.”
Now more than ever, families are seeking an independent school education to help fill in the gaps from the learning loss due to these extenuating circumstances. I encourage you to pursue finding a school like WardlaLAartridge that provides the right learning environment and sense of belonging that can help your child meet their full potential.
To see how we approach our learning here at LA, I welcome you to register for our upcoming Admission Information Session on Saturday, April 1. This opportunity to learn about our school, to hear from division heads and most importantly from our dynamic students and faculty, is always a great way to experience the school, even for a few short hours.
I hope I have the pleasure and privilege of meeting you soon on campus.
