Several LA varsity teams battled in state tournament competitions this week as the fall athletic season winds to a close.
The cross country teams (pictured) ran in the State Prep Championships at Blair Academy on Tuesday. Charlotte Szczubelek ’26 led the girls by finishing 14th in a time of 23:36. Vineeth Reddy ’23 paced the boys finishing 27th in 19:27, while Ryan Maciorowski ’26 placed 39th in 20:18. The Rams will compete in the State Group Championships at Holmdel Park on Saturday.
The LA girls (10-5-1) saw their soccer season end in the quarterfinal round of the state sectional playoffs on Tuesday. A second-half goal by Angelina Vargas ’23 wasn’t enough to rally the Rams from an early deficit as they fought hard in a 3-1 loss to Bishop Eustace.
On Wednesday, the LA boys’ soccer team (10-7-1) lost a heart-breaking home playoff game vs. Hawthorne Christian Academy in the state sectional quarterfinals. Aiden Lee ’23 scored an amazing goal from 25 yards away to give the Rams the lead in the first half but the visitors rallied with the equalizer late in regulation and scored the decisive goal in the final minute of the first sudden death overtime for a 2-1 decision.
The girls’ volleyball team fell short by a 2-0 margin in its upset bid against top-ranked Lodi Immaculate (20-3) in Wednesday’s Non-Public B state tournament. The Rams (10-6-1) held their heads high after more than tripling last year’s win total in a remarkable turnaround season.
