The LA community gathered in record numbers for an evening of fine food, engaging crafts and wonderful entertainment at International Family Fun Night on Feb. 2 in the AP Room. Students and parents from all three divisions participated in cultural dances, many dressed in festive attire representing cultures from around the world. Other event highlights included henna art, Brazilian crafts and Origami for all to participate and enjoy.
Approximately 200 LA students from all three divisions participated in IFFN performances. Dances representing many cultures entertained the audience throughout the evening. Upper School affinity groups including the South Asian Student Alliance, Hispanic Latinx Alliance and the Black Student Alliance performed routines to celebrate the cultures they represent. There was also a fashion show with representation from USA, Brazil, Germany, China, India, Japan, Nepal, Ghana, Haiti, Nigeria, Portugal, Senegal, Thailand, Tibet, Korea, Taiwan and the Dominican Republic. The LA IFFN Choir with students in grades 4-12 performed Michael Jackson’s Heal the World as the finale, directed by Performing Arts Department Chair Sharon Byrne.
Thanks to event chairperson Youlin Tsai, WHPA president Shakti Jha and fellow LA parents Natasha Soni, Shanu Sahni, Bindu Dalal, Kerry O’Neill, Kevin Kornecki, Shirnet Pessoa, Cindy Williams, Archana Singh, Mona Sampathkumar, Anu Seema, Camila Thiesen, Vanessa Belford and Vandana Puri for organizing an amazing evening of entertainment and activities and senior class dean Justine Borzumato for coordinating the food. Members of the Class of 2024 served the delicious buffet of international delights. Proceeds from the event will support funding of the school’s prom in the spring.
