Seniors Address Personal Topics in Speeches

Rudy Brandl

Congratulations to Salim Al Buraiki ’24 (pictured), Avarae Calloway ’24 and Charlie Silver ’24 for delivering thought-provoking senior speeches on Oct. 24 in the Berry Performing Arts Center.

Salim discussed the struggles he’s faced and opportunities he’s embraced as a new student moving to several schools throughout the years. He’s learned resilience, adaptability and connection and thanked his family and friends for their guidance in his ever-changing journey.

Avarae shared a personal story about patience, acceptance and belonging which included vivid accounts of academic struggles that led to self-doubt and isolation. Fueled by her mother’s inspiration, Avarae has not given up and realizes she is still a kind, hard-working and reliable person.

Charlie spoke about awareness and how it applies to many things, including trivial things like the temperature and more important elements such as one’s identity. He encouraged his peers to take better notice of the present and all of life’s beautiful and often dull moments.
