Fourteen Middle School students embarked on an exciting journey into the versatile world of programming during last week’s four-day afterschool STEM workshop – Introduction to Python. Due to its great popularity with the Middle School last year, volunteers from the Upper School's Computer Science Club ran the workshop for a second time. Leaders Vinay Karthik ‘25, Aadithya Srinivasan ‘24, Tiger Huang ‘24, and Nitya Sahni ’26, as well as Aryamaan Roy Choudhury ‘24 and Kuljot Sindhar ‘27 created lesson plans and strengthened students’ Python fundamentals in a fun and engaging way.
Each day, students were introduced to new topics in coding, starting with basic concepts in programming. As the workshop progressed, they learned more advanced concepts such as loops and data structures like lists. Volunteers helped reinforce this knowledge by guiding students through interactive challenges and activities.
With their newfound knowledge, students were able to create multiple fun games in Python such as Mad Libs, Rock Paper Scissors, Guess the Number, and Hangman. These projects not only required students to apply their Python knowledge but also sparked their creativity and problem solving skills.
