Mike Romeo, Athletic Director, announced the first two rounds of Middle School Athletes of the Week for the winter season at this week’s MS Community Meeting. Congratulations to cheerleaders Leah Alves ’29 and Ellie Szczubelek ’28 and basketball players Jaxson Simeonidis ’30, Jeremiah Simeonidis ’30, James Prestia ’30, Christopher Gray ’29 and Aiden Virto ’29.
Leah has started this season as one of the team’s most confident cheerleaders. She knows her motions, is always prepared, and willing to help her new teammates who have never cheered before.
Ellie enthusiastically jumped in to the role of co-captain of the squad. She is encouraging, calm and kind. Ellie also did a great job being aware of the action in last week’s basketball game, calling the right cheers at the right time.
Jaxson, Jeremiah and James are the only sixth graders on a team loaded with seventh and eighth graders. It could be easy for them to shy away from opportunities or reps. Instead they work hard, come to practice ready to learn, and focus on implementing new skills in live action situations. The coaches appreciate the effort they bring and applaud their scrappy attitude.
During a difficult loss last week, Christopher and Aiden displayed all the traits the MS basketball coaches like to see. They were resilient, tough, and refused to quit on the game regardless of the score. Their willingness to scrap through every minute of the game is respected and admired by their coaches.
