Maiti O’Connor ’23 has taken her preparation to a new level and the early results have been amazing. The LA senior captured gold medals in her first two diving meets of the season at Montgomery High School in December.

Maiti was the only female diver to surpass 300 points in her first victory and won by more than 20 points. She posted an even more impressive 330.89 score for another personal record in the second competition to win again.

She credits her amazing coach, Joe Costello, and a rigorous workout schedule that consists of five practices per week that run up to three hours a night. Maiti will continue to work hard to prepare for a busy February, which includes invitational meets on Feb. 1 and Feb. 8, the Easterns on Feb. 18 and the State Championships on Feb. 28.

“My goals for the next few months are just to keep on improving,” Maiti said. “Even if I do wind up not placing first at a meet, my only requirement for myself is to do better than I did last time and compete to my best ability.  States is a little over a month away, I’m super excited and hoping to get a little crowd together that day!”
