The LA girls’ golf team began what it hopes will be a series of three-peat performances with Monday’s team title in the Red Devil Invitational at Copper Hill Country Club. Coming off two straight undefeated state championship seasons, the Rams served notice that they will be a force again this spring with a dominant performance against a strong field of opponents, defeating runner-up Blair Academy by 26 strokes.

Junior Sarah Shao ’24 fired a scintillating two-under-par round of 71 to capture first place individual honors. Sarah was the only player to shoot under par and she defeated the defending champion to lead the Rams.

“I think the team did amazing, and for me personally, I just focused on fairways and greens,” Sarah said. “Winning a tournament as a team at the beginning of the season is definitely motivating, and we're going to try our best to continue the momentum for the rest of the season.”

Teammate Claire Lu ’24 tied for second but was awarded third place on a match of cards with a superb two-over-par round of 75.

“I thought my round went well,” Claire said. “The greens were very fast, which made them challenging, but once I got used to them, they were fine. Overall, I am proud of our team for winning the Red Devil Tournament.”

Ava Choi ’25 and Tanya Chowdary ’24 posted scores of 86 and 88, respectively, to round out the impressive team score of 320. Freshman Lily Bauer ’26 carded a 119 in her first high school tournament.
