Faculty Attend Workshops, Meetings on Professional Development Day

Rudy Brandl

While school was closed with no classes in session on Monday, Oct. 30, faculty and staff members participated in a day of professional development workshops and meetings.

The day began with a hearty breakfast in the AP Room, where teachers, staff members and administrators remained during most of the morning. Dr. Corinna Crafton, Head of School. shared brief details and priorities of the school's Strategic Development Plan during her welcome and introduction of the day's events.

Maxime Sinal, DEIB Coordinator, introduced guest moderator Savi Tuber, a consultant from The Glasgow Group who led an interactive presentation and discussion titled Implicit Bias Workshop. Mr. Tuber shared conversation norms, provided examples of implicit bias while differentiating lenses and blind spots, discussed core cultural identifiers and invited the LA faculty and staff to create their own "molecules" with specific attention to their most noteworthy identifiers in a group exercise.

Faculty and staff members attended division and department meetings throughout the rest of the day. Other events included meetings of the Faculty Growth and Development Working Group and the Strategic Development Team Leaders, and Canvas platform work with the Technology Department. Dr. Crafton closed the day with a brief meeting in the Berry Performing Arts Center during which she asked faculty and staff to share key takeaways from the morning session.
