Devin Coleman ’24 entertained a variety of options when making her college decision, including which sport to pursue at the next level. A three-sport athlete who has made a significant impact in her two years at LA, Devin ultimately chose softball and made it official at a signing ceremony in the school’s Admission Conference Room on May 22. Devin will play softball for the Raritan Valley Lions and pursue a major in physical therapy.
“I’m so incredibly excited to continue this journey and play in college,” Devin said. “It’s something that I definitely dreamed of as a little kid.”
A key contributor for the Rams in their volleyball and basketball division championship runs during the 2023-2024 school year, Devin leads the LA outfield as the team’s center fielder. She’s currently batting .400 for the Rams.
“Softball is my way of escaping reality,” Devin said. “It’s my way of getting away from what’s going on in the world and just be me and be in my zone.”
Devin was joined by her father, Henry, twin brother Dylan ’24, LA athletic director Mike Romeo and LA softball coach John Childs. LA administrators Dr. Bob Bowman, Upper School Head, Gerard Gonnella '89, Director of Admission, and Alayne Birnhak, Associate Director of College Counseling, also attended the event.
“WardlaLAartridge has definitely taught me to be myself,” Devin said. “When I came here, I felt like I truly belonged with my classmates, teachers, administrators and sports teams. Everything just felt like it clicked.
She’s also grateful for the academic preparation she’s received in her two years at LA: “Wardlaw’s curriculum has definitely prepared me for college. It has shown me and taught me what I need to do to be successful.”
Devin gave a big shout out to her family for being “ so incredibly supportive in everything I’ve done. I think I tried every sport imaginable.”
