Annie Gu ’23 was among four local high school seniors to receive Good Citizen Awards from The Westfield Chapter of The Daughters of The American Revolution (DAR).
Schools selected one Good Citizen from their senior class based on Dependability (truthfulness, loyalty, punctuality), Service (cooperation, courtesy, consideration of others), Leadership (personality, self-control, responsibility), and Patriotism (unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation).
DAR members Barbara Benko, Adah Levin, mother of LA graduates Andrew ’96 and Stephen ’99, and Victoria Freeman, a LA alumna from the Class of 1992, presented Annie with a DAR Good Citizen Certificate, pin and wallet card in the LA front courtyard on June 2. Each winner also received a $100 cash prize donated by the Westfield DAR Chapter.
“It was an honor to receive the DAR Good Citizen Award and represent WardlaLAartridge,” Annie said. “I wish nothing but the best to the Westfield DAR Chapter going forward.”
Annie performed extremely well in all the criteria for this recognition, which included a DAR Scholarship Essay and a superb record of service. She has maintained an extremely active schedule with various school and community projects holding leadership and advisory roles. At LA, she served as the Student Council President, peer leader and Model United Nations president. She won the prestigious W-H Pin, the highest award bestowed on a graduating senior and is also the valedictorian in the Class of 2023. She is attending Yale University in the fall.
