A MESSAGE FROM OUR ASSOCIATE HEAD OF SCHOOL |
|
|
| Dr. Corinna Crafton, Associate Head of School, takes us through a Time Machine in honor of the school's 140th anniversary year in her recent blog post. Below is an excerpt:
It would be 36 years before women could vote. Forty-five years would pass before the first television was put to market. And in 73 years, a vaccine for polio would be introduced, which would save millions of young lives. The year was 1882, and the world was a very different place. In that year, Thomas Edison formed the Edison Electric Company and soon life for millions of homes and businesses would be forever changed. In Plainfield, New Jersey, a school for boys opened; it would become The Wardlaw School. Soon after, and in the same city, a school for girls opened, which would become The Hartridge School. The two schools prepared their students for lives so utterly different from those of our students today.

| Emma Herko '25 excels on international pitch |
Emma Herko ’25 certainly made the most of her first trip outside the United States. Although her July excursion was focused on soccer and an international tournament that saw the WardlaLAartridge sophomore standout help her team finish third in a very competitive field, Emma also enjoyed an opportunity to see the world.
Selected from among several club teams to play with NJ14 Soccer Club, Emma and her teammates competed in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden in a U15 bracket that featured 118 teams representing 12 nations. A center attacking midfielder who also played striker and wing in the tournament, Emma scored two goals and added three assists to propel her team to a 7-1 record. She also was named a team captain. |
