A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS |
|
|
| Mike Romeo, Athletic Director, explores the interesting topic of Rethinking the Definition of Athletic Success in his January blog post. Below is an excerpt:
Now that I’m an Athletic Director, I have an opportunity to oversee a group of coaches. Clearly, an athletic program is only as strong as its coaches. We are very fortunate to have some of the best in the business coaching our teams. Quality coaches will always tell you that you never stop learning as a coach. At our first coaches meeting back in September, I challenged our coaches to think more about what their players might be thinking or feeling. I’m sure many of the coaches I had growing up would see no value in this information. I remember one coach saying, “On this team, we don’t question the coach. It is a dictatorship. It’s my way, or the highway.” That was the 70’s and 80’s. Thankfully, coaching has changed.

| Seniors earn early decision acceptances |
Congratulations to several seniors in the Class of 2023 who have made their college plans official after accepting Early Decision admission to their No. 1 choices. For the next several weeks, the WHEN will include spotlights on seniors who have earned Early Decision admission.
Among the first to receive the good news was Nick Vargas ’23, who will attend Stevens Institute of Technology and major in civil engineering. The WardlaLAartridge lifer discovered his future college home through a wonderful experience at its Civil Engineering and Architecture Summer Program in 2022.
“I enjoyed the program so much that I knew going into my senior year where I most wanted to go. The summer program allowed me to live in a college environment, and by the end, I truly felt that there was no better place where I could spend my next four years,” said Nick, who was also looking to stay close to home. “Besides Stevens’s brilliant academic programs in anything STEM, the most desirable thing about Stevens is the location. The college and campus itself is the perfect size for me and has a beautiful view of New York City from across the Hudson River. Stevens really offers everything.”

| Anatomy students create skeletons |
Students in Ms. Ann Pengue’s Anatomy and Physiology class have been studying the skeletal system. They ended the unit by creating a life size representation of the skeletal system that helped to reinforce their understanding. Students were asked to trace one another, then draw, paint, or create the bones of the skeletal system using any material of their choice. Students enjoyed the opportunity to use creativity in their collaboration during this interesting project. ANATOMY CLASS SKELETONS PHOTO GALLERY |
